چکیده

The effect of left ventricular volume (LVV) in relation to the left ventricular mass (LVM) was studied on the voltage electrocardiographic (ECG) criteria of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). For this purpose, the sensitivity of numerous voltage criteria were assessed in patients with documented echocardiographic (echo) LVH with or without left ventricular dilatation. The ECG criteria that combined voltages in two leads were more sensitive than when a single voltage criterion was utilized. There was no characteristic pattern of increased voltages to differentiate between eccentric and concentric subtypes of LVH. However, the Cornell criteria were less affected by the LV geometry for detecting LVH with or without LV dilatation. This is probably due to the fact that they utilize the voltages in a precordial and a limb lead.

Electrocardiographic diagnosis of left ventricular hypertrophy in aortic valve disease: evaluation of ECG criteria by cardiovascular magnetic resonance

BACKGROUND Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a hallmark of chronic pressure or volume overload of the left ventricle and is associated with risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The purpose was to evaluate different electrocardiographic criteria for LVH as determined by cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). Additionally, the effects of concentric and eccentric LVH on depolariza...

Electrocardiography in the diagnosis of ventricular hypertrophy in patients with chronic renal disease.

BACKGROUND Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is an independent predictor of cardiovascular risk, and its characterization and prevalence in chronic renal disease (CRD) should be further studied. OBJECTIVE To establish the diagnosis of LVH in patients with stage-5 CRD using six different electrocardiographic criteria, and to correlate them with left ventricular mass index (LVMI) as obtained b...

Electrocardiographic left ventricular hypertrophy is not associated with increased in-hospital adverse events in patients experiencing first non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction: A single center study

Background: There is conflicting data about prognostic implication of electrocardiographic (ECG) left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) in patients with first non- ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI). We aimed to examine the association of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) on admission electrocardiogram with adverse outcomes in patients with NSTEMI. Methods: In the present study, ...

Assessment of voltage criteria for left ventricular hypertrophy in adult hypertensives in south-western Nigeria.

BACKGROUND Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a common pathophysiological consequence of hypertension. Various voltage (ECG) criteria exist for evaluation of LVH. This study assessed the performance of 4 commonly used ECG criteria in south-western Nigeria. MATERIALS AND METHODS A cross-sectional descriptive study of adult hypertensive subjects. Participants were assessed for LVH using 4 EC...
